They are so affordable, comfortable and flattering, that EVERYONE should be wearing them.   They beat pantyhose hands down in coolness, durability and comfort and have, thank goodness replaced the trackpants for yoga, travelling and slouching around.

 Shopping  Tips: go for a stretchable waist– to avoid the Muffen top.   The thicker the better –hold’s in the cellulite.  Colour: black is best , but for the adventurous the pattered pairs are very trendy. …so you may see Heather in a pair of Leopard ones (rather than the tartan).

 How to wear leggings:  Now, this all depends on how you view your legs…. for those who would rather not draw too much attention to their trunks, show off only the best part. E.g. love your ankles- wear leggings with pumps and long tops. Or  love your lower thigh- wear knee high boots and mid thigh tops.

As a good staple should be, you can dress them up or down and wear them with many things in your wardrobe.  Oversized jerseys, tunics and cardies, shirts, jackets, under short skirts, with pumps or in boots!

We have a few ideas on how to keep this staple current this season.  One of the trends for winter 2012 is Fourties Glamour.  It’s a great one to have fun with and so easy to achieve…. Just by adding some accessories…….. pearls, shrugs, faux fur.

Meet the Trinny and Susannah
of South Africa: Ali McAdam
and Heather Katz

Age and occupation Ali, 31, and Heather, 35, are image consultants and owners of Lipstick Spin. Hail from Cape Town. Bag of tricks It was a mutual love of fashion that brought Ali and Heather together. In 2007 they happened to be at the same play group for their children when Heather noticed Ali’s gorgeous chocolate-brown handbag. ‘I went over to compliment Ali on her bag and we started chatting. That was the beginning of our solid friendship,’ says Heather. Like mother, like daughter Both women credit their moms for their sense ofstyle. Ali’s mom was involved in the local fashion scene while Heather says her mom ‘was the most stylish woman in the small farm town I grew up in.’ After university, Heather worked in the fashion industry, while Ali created a children’s clothing range, Daffodils and Dukes. In style As they entered their thirties and became mothers themselves, the
stylish duo noticed a gap in the market. ‘Many of our friends would ask us for wardrobe advice. They wanted to be fashionable without looking like mutton dressed as lamb,’ says Ali. So they created Lipstick Spin, an image consultancy that offers a holistic approach to makeovers. ‘We look at health, attitude, lifestyle and individual taste; the entire essence of what makes each woman unique,’ says Ali. They also host style workshops
‘where women learn about fashion, make-up and inner beauty,’ adds Heather. Fashion forward The fashionistas
recently launched their own clothing label, also called Lipstick Spin. ‘Our aim is to provide trendy, quality clothes that won’t break the bank,’ says Heather. ‘This is just the tip of the iceberg for us; there is so much more we want to achieve!’

They shared their tricks and coverd topics such as the perfect tan , eyelash extensions or growth serum, then the importance of pedicures and bikini waxes as well as some stunning summer beauty products . They also discussed the most flattering swimsuits and beachwear and yes….. Heather did model the bikini”s !  We were all amazed at how different shape sunglasses suit certain face shapes and had fun accessorizing  a black and white dress.

The goodie bags and fabulous giveaways from Dior were such a treat and many happy ladies went home with lucky draw pirses.

They did however lift her skirt to see what she was hiding ( thank goodness Heather told her to put on the little hot pants underneath !!!)

Our makeup artist Sjaneel Turrel demonstrated the “ 5 min face” for those busy ladies who have limited time, but of coarse still need to look fabulous. She showed us how to glam up the “ 5 min face” to take you all the way through to evening. Lipstick Ladies all brought their own makeup bags and Sjaneel spent time with each individual sorting, discarding and using their contents according to their skin tone and face shape. Thanks Sjaneel, we all learnt so much !!

Heather and Ali showed some of their “best items” and layering techniques in a demonstration and had full coordinated outfits for guests to try on. All Lipstick Club members received 10 % off on all their purchases for the night and we all had fun shopping together !

The lipstick spin ladies gathered together for a night of delicious food, lots of laughter and some bubbles! We covered 50 basic essentials, the backbone of every stylish woman’s wardrobe from your basic white shirt to a little summer dress! The ladies were supplied with a booklet of all the essentials and where they could currently purchase them. We added a little bit of style to some of the most basic items, modeled and accessorized with belts and some sparkly earrings. One of the other exciting things, Lipstick spin has launched our own range of basic essentials from a tunic to a shorter vest and then added to that a gorgeous easy to wear swing jersey, they were well received on the night!
